Welcome to the Full Tech Podcast, this is John from Kentuckynerd.com I decided to start on a full-on nerdy podcast. So I can get down and nerdy. The kn podcast is still going to be a thing live. We are still trying to figure out. We are just trying to figure out more of a niche, I feel like we talk about too much politics and not enough about tech. Maybe this will balance out something. So hopefully we will do some more nerdy stuff. As for the website in December we are going to be going to a new host. For a normal member that doesn’t mean anything, for the nerds out there we are going to be going to a new host upgrade. Which isn’t really bad, but it is not really bad, nowhere near where I need it to be. This host will let me do what I want, including Secure Shell, whenever people visit the website they will be secure. The website its almost kinda there just for looks just for blogging sharing and stuff like that. It definitely idk I love the website. I love blogging, I love streaming that's why we are doing the full tech podcast. So anyway let’s get to some stuff. If you don’t know me I’m I work in the IT field I won’t say where, if you know me personally you probably already know. Don’t worry about that but I’m defiantly an IT professional I also enjoy live streaming now. I’ve got so into live stream it is kinda ridiculous, I love the old stuff I love talking on the mic I think its really talk I like seeing the waves going up and down like I am right now I love doing all that stuff. So why not just do it all, try to share my knowledge maybe someone out there will care idk. But, let's go into the streaming equipment some people might care, some might not but I’m going to start with that. Of course, you can start with your computer to stream, capture your screen etc. but what that does is put a stress on your computer. But if you are a big-time gamer like me if a game isn't playing perfect almost you can really tell. So when you are using OBS or xsplit whatever it might be that you might be using. You will notice some framerate drops, what streaming does is it uses an encoder to stream to the internet and is very taxing on your processor you can do other things to kinda get around it but your stream is probably isn’t going to be that good without a good processor. Modern games such as Quake champions is very taxing on your PC. Very taxing on your pc. So, what happens is that you will start dropping frame you won’t be able to stream in 60 fps I know I do, you won’t be able to do that, your processor won’t be able to handle it. My processor right now is fantastic for gaming, I got the i5 7400 I did not get the K, for the life of me I didn’t get the K. I budgeted and I didn’t get the K I wish I would've got the K but I didn’t do it. For the reasons unknown I was budgeting but I decided why not a budget I wasn’t planning on streaming really hardcore modern games and I do wanna bring modern games to the streams. So I’m sort of a perfectionist so the best setup to stream good is to have a good processor. You gotta get that K, such as the 7700K at least to do the encoding process. This process is very taxing I’m not sure about AMD I haven’t used AMD processor in a while my buddy might be able to go into more detail with that sometime. But I focus on Intel and Nvidia but really you just need a good processor. I have 2 good computers one is my server which I’m going to turn into a streaming box. I’ll be buying an Elgato 60 HD Pro to install it on my server and use it then to stream instead of my gaming PC. I don’t know if anyone is gonna watch it, but if they do it is going to be fantastic. Now for my game consoles, I have an HD HAUPPAUGE PVR 2 its for capturing consoles. It can capture PC but it doesn’t really handle 1080 the PVR2 can’t support that. I’m not into the 4k stuff yet at all. That’s way outta my budget if mean if you get 4k 30 frames per second I’m not into that I’m into full silky smooth gameplay. That's why I got 1080 my Elgato handles 1080 so it is going to look fantastic. On my streaming channel, I stream retro games, I stream I’m going to be streaming everybody is Sega Saturn it is going to be fantastic. I hooked up my Saturn I tried to do the swap and I couldn’t do it on stream. I had people waiting and couldn’t do the disc swap I must’ve had a bad disc, I was burning iso. Come to find out you gotta burn .q files burning isos didn’t work. I noobed it work, I went and bought a mod chip it’s coming any day now. Whenever you guys want it's gonna be rocking and rolling with Sega Saturn. I’ve never played any games on Saturn so its gonna be fantastic. It’s going to be fun. Let’s plays and more RPG shoot em ups fighting games heck idk I’ll stream em all IDC. Should be fun. But I’m definitely into streaming we got facebook youtube, twitch I’ll stream em all at the same time it’ll be cool. What you guys know is I’m an IT professional I won’t go into where I’m working if you know me personally you probably already know. I’ve work at other places what I’ve realized of the years is that people or normal users of computers is that they are really confused. Really I think they are afraid they are afraid to do anything on a computer with the fact that they might break it instantly. So really whenever I go help people its kinda almost like I’m going in there to tell them that everything is ok, that you can click this button this is what you are supposed to do its ok. It’s kinda interesting people going into the IT field normally start out as helpdesk which is kinda where I’m still out which I’m trying my best to get outta that role. I really wanna get into networking but that's a whole other down the road but the most you get into help you are going to get tasked with everything in the world to do I’ve done it all. Basically, I’ve already done it all just about anything you can do in the IT field I’m not a programmer but in the IT hardware I know how to program switches which is what I love to do but it's interesting you’ll meet, you’ll meet a bunch of Irate users too. You’ll meet some friendly ones, but mostly you will meet bad ones too but most of them you just let them know that everything is going to be alright. It’s just interesting. People interest me that being said you’ll see interesting things that just interest you more whenever you get into the IT field mostly everyone start in the helpdesk then they will find a field that interests them more than idk say you just wanna do servers. You know in helpdesk you will most likely get on a server but it won’t be your main position. In helpdesk you kinda do a little bit of everything, you just kinda do a little bit of everything. But most just be friendly to people they are mostly friendly back, sometimes maybe not so much. I’ve learned to just bite your tongue and go on, they probably don’t mean it personally that's my Tip, just kinda if you wanna get into the IT field you know to be yourself don’t be nervous sometimes I use to get really nervous talking to people. They are just a human being just like you they just don’t that much about computers. They get REALLY confused if its ok to do something. Sometimes they are so confused they are afraid to check an email. Or where email is even supposed to be, or if they should click start if they should go to this website, it’s really confusing to a lot of people it really is. I didn't’ know it was this bad until I got into the filed. They do not know what an address bar is. I tell them to go to an address bar and they tell me I don’t know what that is, is that Google? A lot of people just confuse it for google which is kinda funny. Do I need to go to google, know just type in the address? What? Then they will just end up searching the address on google I mean it kinda works so sometimes I just let it go on. But, just kinda funny. Little daily life in tech support. You tell people to go to an address and they go to google. They go to google anyway google will lead them in the right way. Google is your friend and can be your enemy but mostly it is your friend. Alright So, when I stream, I love streaming retro games. There are so many retro games there are so many retro games I didn’t get to play growing up, the lot of them I’ve sold I’ve been collecting more NES now. NES is just a fun platform for me to collect, I don’t know why but something about collecting that old grey cartridge but super Nintendo is expensive NES is expensive too just NES is just something I just like collecting. I like seeing the old artwork, its simple for my Son to play it only has 2 buttons and a d-pad just something about it. I collect for other things, for modern, I collect PS4 and Switch. I got out of super Nintendo, I’ve got outta sega genesis mostly it just Nintendo right now. I don’t know what it is but I love putting them into the shelf. I love grabbing them slapping them in and playing. Right now I got 2 regular NES, and a Retron HD. I do capture the retron Hd another thing I do is capture off the Wii if I don’t own the game. The Wii is modded. The Wii is easily softmodded and easily hacked. A little too simple really a lot of people don’t understand what that means. That means I done an exploit and it let me basically take over the system which you are not supposed to be able to do that. I got to install roms, emulators stuff like that. Really cool, that's what I use to capture I use the HD PVR Hauppauge PVR2 I use it to capture to capture some games I don’t have I’m still collecting I’ll collect forever if I can. It’s really fun, collecting is really fun if you have not collected then I suggest you go out there and collect. When you are collecting especially in Kentucky you’ll find the best deal off of real people. Some, retro stores will give you a good deal the retro store in Winchester, they know the owners know I know a lot about video games and collecting so they will sometimes cut me a deal, sometimes they won’t its according to if its a $5 game then i’m just going to pay the price, if its going to be say uhhh my next pick up ninja Gaiden III since I have GameStop elite pro I can get it $39.99 at the retro store they have it at $50 I’ll be like listen I can get it here for this but I’d rather get it off, you guys. That's just a little tip for whenever you go out and start collecting. My best find was whenever I and my wife went searching one day we went yardsaling, and we ran across this box $20 it even had the Wii that I modded in it. $20 for this box had NES games, Wii controllers, Zapper gun best find I’ve found for $20 best find I’ve found since I’ve been looking I didn’t even try to talk her down I told her to just take it as fast as I can so I can get outta here with my loot. It had like 3 or 4 NES games. It was a good find for sure, you are basically going to find your good finds basically at yard sales and stuff like that. So yea, check out the yard sales they are everywhere, I’m telling ya whenever it gets about fall the yard sales just light up all over like lightning bulb or something across Kentucky it's ridiculous. There even a yard sale day towards Morehead its ridiculous. I even found a knife going toward Morehead said he was just wanting to get rid of his knife collection I was like ok how much do you want for this knife. Said he wanted $40 the thing he offered was you can have it all for $150 I was like whattt but this knife is $40? I’ll tell ya what I don’t have that much money on me but I’ll give ya whats in my pocket. He said really, I said it is not very much but its enough. I got $11 he said that's all you got, he said alright I’ll take it. I said that's it. That goes to show ya that he was really wanting to get rid of his knife. Turns out its a saber stainless with a big bass on it. Just a big ole bass. I need to catch me one of those next coming years. Well, guys that's what you wanna do in retro gaming and collecting so the Sega Saturn. Very expensive games I had no ideaaaaaaa how expensive these games were. The panzer dragoon games are like $300 but when you collected CD based games or optical disc game you normally wanna collect it “complete”. Normally the its because you want the cool looking jewel case I’ve gotten 1 but its just a sports game but it’s cool to look at they are made different than anything else. Sitting on the shelf. So expensive, Sooo expensive. Do you even have to go into retro collecting complete? It is according to how you feel. The NES, I never had one growing up but my cousins always played it and I never had one. I’m addicted to collecting the NES games right now its ridiculous. why it ridiculous but it is So Sega Saturn I’ve got into, this thing is cool, this is a big 32-bit system but it plays sweet sweet 16 bit games. I don’t know why it failed, maybe I’ll figure it out whenever I start playing it. It wasn’t real popular in America it was more popular in Japan. Come to find out it is just soooo expensive I can’t believe how expensive it is, but that's why I got the modchip. It’ll be able to play burnt games, Some people don’t like playing stuff like that honestly, I don’t really care. It’s going to be fun, the only way to play it, you don’t have emulators and stuff like that, I think they are working on emulator but I don’t know. I like playing on the original stuff, I have flash carts of all kinds, Sega genesis everdrive, Gameboy everdrive, DS everdrive flash drive whatever you wanna call em. Playing on the original hardware is where it is at. I’ve come to find out whenever I was streaming one night whenever I was streaming on Facebook, I was trying to stream ninja Gaiden and idk like I said the streaming processor does take a toll on your processor. And I was trying to stream ninja gaiden and I was getting lag everywhere. Trying to stream this game like what in the world is going on I can’t make a simple jump. I was using a 360 controller and it just wasn’t pleasant. I’m just here to tell you whenever you play on the real stuff, that's when it is really fun. That's when you have a better advantage it wasn’t meant to be played, ninja gaiden wasn’t mean to be played on a 27-inch LCD 144hz monitor anyway, it was made to be played old Curtis Mathis CRT with wood grain on the side of it like mine. CRT what I’m talking about. Another thing I collect here recently is for the original GameBoy and if you didn’t know back in the day, they didn’t have light. You had to be in the most perfect position to see your screen it’s kind ridiculous if you have played the original game in 2017 pick one up that isn’t modified and try to play that sucker. It is impossible, its green it is terrible trying to see, you can’t really see whats going on. But whenever I read that you could do these cool mods, these cool backlight mods I got the blue one. fantastic! I pop in Super Mario land 2 and its super fun and I can actually see what I’m doing in the dark! It’s amazing, and it's a simple mod too. It only cost like $10 - $15 bucks to do I tell you what. I’m going to get an everdrive for it as well. I love collecting for Gameboy but, whenever I can get all the games on one drive and its another system I didn't’ really have growing up was the Gameboy. They always had all the cool stuff that I always wanted. Maybe that's why I want all this stuff. I didn’t have the Gameboy growing up, I had a game gear but it would suck the batteries on it, but it was color! Anyways back to the Gameboy So hard to see. My sweet blue light mod is amazing I tell you what, it definitely brought back a whole new way to game. It’s just cool I know I can play emulators and stuff like that, playing stuff on the original hardware it's just something about it. If you haven’t done that it's just different. I have a million ways to play emulators and roms its just something about the real hardware and the real game something about it. Maybe it just brings outs the nostalgia idk. You should try the real hardware though you can play emulators all day like I said but there is something about playing the REAL stuff. I’m telling ya. The thing about everdrive it actually plays the real games you just don’t don’t have a physical copy, you can’t go out and buy a little Samson you can’t go out and buy a chip and dale rescue ranger 2 or panzer dragoon. At least I can’t any way I have a family maybe if I had more money to spend on these games then why not. That is why for NES I’ve traded here and there in-store credit traded for cash. I still have quite a few super Nintendo games I’m trying to get rid of and Gameboy games because now I’ve decided I don’t want to collect for the super Nintendo anymore. The American super Nintendo the north American super Nintendo is super ugly. It’s grey and purple have you ever seen the Japanese super Famicom its super cool. The only problem is, is that I can’t read Japanese! I have nothing on it right now that I can play. After I get the everdrive I’ll have all the games, I can play romhacks which is another thing my twitch channel gonna play some sweet sweet ROM hacks. I don’t think many people are doing that and I wanna do it because there are lots of completed like final fantasy VI final fantasy III on super Nintendo final fantasy VI completed mods and they look awesome. I love final fantasy vi its one of my favorite games final fantasy III super Nintendo it is like the game I had growing up. For Christmas I got a super Nintendo and 1 controller and turtle in time. I didn’t get the cool super Mario world pack that everyone else got, I had Mario i mean I had 1 controller super Nintendo and turtles. I don’t know why mine came like that I guess my parents probably got it off somebody I got no idea, I didn’t get the cool one that came with 2 controllers. But eventually, I got final fantasy vii begged my mom forever to get that game. I tell you what that game I is just fantastic it has fantastic music, it has fantastic gameplay. I can’t wait to play some of these hacked roms. Be sure to check out the twitch channel. Right now I gotta finish Lufia 2 because that is an amazing game. After I get done recording this podcast I may jump on and play. Tonight sometime, I love retro games you guys be sure to check out everything.
